Regular Exercise Keeps More Than The Body In Shape

It has been known for decades that regular exercise and a healthy diet keeps the body in shape by building muscle tone, building up and creating stronger bones, lowering cholesterol and even preventing some very serious diseases such as heart disease, cancer and strokes.

Recently scientist have discovered that regular exercise and a healthy diet will also keep our minds healthy as we grow older. The human brain contains two different types of cells and tissues that are commonly referred to as gray matter and white matter. These are the tissues that help people to think, learn, and to remember.

For years scientist have known that as humans grow older this brain matter begins to shrink and adversely affects our thinking, learning and memory. However, in a study done by a team of very reputable scientist it was found that older people who continued to exercised everyday and kept up a good healthy diet had less shrinkage of the brains matter and that it was a direct result of keeping a physically fit and healthy body.

In other studies it was also found that even if a person starts exercising at the age of 60 the effects of aging on the brain can still be slowed down and even improved. Below are a few hints and tips on keeping your mind and your body as sharp as a tack as you grow older.
